श्रदेय नेताको विदाई यात्रा
विहान आठ वजेदेखी बेलुका आठ वजेसम्मको घटनाक्रम जस्ताको तस्तै
शान्ती प्रकृयाका नेतृत्वकर्ता स्वर्गिय गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाको विदाईमा निक्कै शान्त थियो काठमाडौं । फाट्टफुट्ट सवारीसाधन चलेका थिए । पसलहरु खुलेका थिए । तर, सबैको मुहार मलिनो थियो । मुहारले प्रष्ट पारिरहेको थियो सबै शोकमा छन आज । विहान आठवजे कोइरालापुत्री सुजाताको मन्डिखाटारको निवासवाट नेपाली सेनाको ट्रकमा राखेर उनको शब यात्रा शुरु गरिएको थियो । उनको शब प्रारम्भमा केन्द्रिय कार्यालय विपी नगर पु¥याएर केही समय राखी श्रद्धाञ्जलीका लागि रंगशालामा राखिएयो सात घन्टा । सात घन्टाको अवधिमा पनि उनीप्रति श्रद्धासुमन ब्यक्त गर्नेहरुको संख्या सकिएन । २ वजे रंगशालावाट शब यात्रा शुरु गरेर अन्तिम संस्कारका लागि पशुपति आर्यघाट लैजाने कार्यतालीका अनुसार २ वजेनै शबयात्रा शुरु गर्नुपर्ने थियो । तर, जिपीप्रति श्रद्धावानहरुको लाइन देखेर करिव डेढ घन्टा बढाउंदापनि लाइन नसकिएपछि भने बाध्य भएर शब यात्रा पशुपतितिर लागेको थियो । शब यात्रा शुरु भएको थाहा पाएर कोइरालाको अन्तिम दर्शनमा लागि लाइनमा बसेका केही शुभेच्छुकले आवेश थेग्न नसकेर रंगशालामा तोडफोड समेत गरे ।
सांढे तीन वजे शुरु भयोे शब यात्रा । कोइरालाको अन्तिम दर्शनका लागि सडक किनारमा र शब यात्राको अगाडि र पछाडि मानव सागर नै उर्लिएको थियो । जसका कारण शब यात्रा निक्कै सुस्त भयो । दशरथ रंगशालावाट सुन्धारा, रत्नपार्क, पुतली सडक,डिल्लीबजार, मैतिदेखी पुरानोबानेश्वर, गौशाला हुंदै शबयात्रा पशुपति आर्यघाट पुगेको थियो । अत्याधिक मासका कारण प्रारम्भमा सुन्धारा र गौशालामा केही समय शब यात्रा रोकिएको थियो ।
आर्यघाटमा स्वर्गिय कोइरालाको शब पुगेपछि उर्लिएको शुभेच्छुकहरुलाई व्यवस्थित गर्न खटिएका शुरक्षाकर्मी तव आत्तिए जव शबयात्रामा सहभागि संख्या पशुपति पुग्नु अगाडि नै पशुपति क्षेत्रै पुरै मानव सागरले भरिएको देखे । उनीहरुले धेरै मिहेनत गरेर कोइरालाको पार्थिव शरिर सहित वरिष्ठ नेता, विदेशी पाहुना, विशिष्ट ब्यक्ती र कोइराला परिवारका सदस्यलाई पशुपति प्रवेश गराएर अन्यलाई रोकेका थिए ।
राजकिय सम्मान सहित कोइरालाको अन्तीम संस्कार गर्न बागमती नदी किनारमा रहेको एक नम्बर चितामा तीन सय किलो दाउरा र रक्त चन्दन सहित चिताको निर्माण गरिसकिएको थियो । कोइरालाको अन्तिम संस्कार लागि यस अगाडि राजशाहीले प्रयोग गर्ने गरेको स्थानमा चिताको निर्माण गरिएको थियो । प्रहरी खटिएर र्दुघन्धीत बागमतिलाई केही सफा बनाउने प्रयास गरेका थिए । तर, त्यो ढलमती सामान्य सफाइवाट कसरी बागमती बनोस ।
सात वजे कोइरालाको पार्थीव शरिर पशुपति आर्यघाट पुग्यो । हिन्दु संस्कार अनुसार मृतकको बैकुन्ठ बास होस उनले मुक्ति पाओस भनेर केही समय खोला किनारमै रहेको महादेव तल रहेको ब्रम्हनालमा राखियो । ब्रम्हनालमा कोइरालाको खुट्टा केही समय बागमती खोलाले छुने गरी राखेपछि सुजाताले अन्तिम पटक आफ्ना बुबालाई पानी खुवाईन । कोइरालाको दाहसंस्कारका लागि खटिएका ब्राम्हणहरुले उनको सबै कपडा फुकालेर उनलाई ओम लेखेको कपडाले छोपिदिए । त्यसमाथि सेतो कात्रो त थियो नै ।
ब्रम्हनालवाट उनको पार्थिव शरिर चितामा ल्याईयो । चितामा तीन पटक परिक्रमा गराएपछि उनको भौतिक शरिरलाई पांच तत्वमा मिलाउने प्रकृया शुरु भयो । केही समय कोइरालाको अन्तीम दर्शन गर्न चाहने शुभेच्छुकहरुका लागि समय छुट्ट्याईयो । दाहसंस्कारमा खटिएका ब्राम्हणले उनको शबदाहको प्रकृया शुरु गरे । ७ : ४५ मा आगोको मुस्लो सहितको दागबत्ति सुजाताको हातमा थमाईयो । उनी हातमा दनदन बलेको दागबत्ति बोकेर बाबुलाई परिक्रमा गरिन् अनी अन्तिम पटक बाबुको मुहार हेर्दै ७ : ४७ बाबुको मुखमा आगोको मुस्लो लगाएर दाहसंस्कारको औपचारिक प्रारम्भ गरिन् ।
उनको यि सबै प्रकृयामा पछाडि कालो ज्याकेट लगाएको एक ब्यक्तिपनि सक्रिय थिए । शब यात्रादेखी दागबत्तिसम्म उनी सुजातासंगै थिए । तर, उनी लो प्रोफाइलमा बसेर काम गरेका कारण उनलाई अरुले त्यत्ति चिनेनन् । उनी थिए शुष्माका पहिलो सन्तान सुरेश । कोइरालाले शुष्मालाई विवाह गरेपछि शुरेसलाइ छोरा मानेका थिए र नागरिकता पनि आफ्नो नाममा बनाईदिएका थिए । तर, उनले दागबत्ति चै दिन पाएनन् । स्विर्गिय कोइरालाको शब आगोको मुस्लोमा विलिनहुंदै गयो यि । सबै दृष्य हेर्दाहेदै आंखा चिसो भयो । तप तप खसे आंसु । लाग्यो यि दृष्य देख्दा कोइरालाको जस्तोसुकै आलोचकहरुकोको पनि आंखा पक्कै ओभानो रहने होला ।
नेपाली सेनाले उनलाई अन्तिम सलामी दियो । यता सैनिक मुख्यालयमा उनको सम्मानमा १५ पटक तोप पड्किए । विहानदेखी आफ्ना श्रद्धेय नेताको विदाईमा सहभागि शुभेच्छुकहरु पुन अश्रुमय आंखा बोकेर नारा लगाउंदै घरतिर फर्किए–गिरिजाबाबु अमर रहुन ।

Man has but one destiny. It was destiny of Girija to die not as “a hog hunted and penned in an inglorious spot” which was what Panchayat rulers tried to do many times – the famous one in Rupandedhi district by the mass tempted and lead by today’s cabinet minister Deepak Bohara and his “mandale” gangs. When I saw this huge mass procession in his funeral, that tragic incident that occurred in Rupandhi came to my mind and tear stated dropping paving a way through my face to my lap. I thought of Alok Sir, an honest teacher, whom those people shot and killed mistakenly in dark thinking he was Girija Prasad Koirala while Girija was upstairs in the top floor“buekel” of the same house where they killed Alok Sir in year 2041/42.
How many people in the today’s funeral know the fact that Alok sir exchanged the destiny of GPK with his own life?
Another prominent leader of NC, Saroj P Koirala senior to GPK whom many thought would lead Congress party and the democratic movement , was not provided the second chance by the destiny as he was shot and killed which GPK escaped. In these last twenty GPK had become larger than life figure. Thousands of people have given their life for the political cause they believed in, some escaped their tragic end and also went to the highest post where they got chance to implement what they believe in, but how many really practiced what they preached when they were in power? Let it be given to history to judge GPK on that regard.
For now, let us pray may his soul rest in eternal peace.

मान्छेको मनोविज्ञान धेरै जटिल छ ! भनिन्छ जुनदिन देखि मालिकले नोकर राख्न थाल्छ- मालिक नोकर हुन्छ र नोकर मालिक बन्न पुग्छ ! लुगा धोई दिने, इस्त्री लगाई दिने, खाना पकाई दिने, र जुत्ता सफा गरि दिने नोकरको सेवाहरुमा आनन्दित र dependent मालिक त्यो नोकरको एक छिनको अभावमापनि छटपटिन थाल्छ (जब छटपटिन्छ त्यो मालिक नोकरको अवस्थामा झर्छ) ! हो मालिकको धनको शक्तिले एउटा नोकर गए अर्को नोकर किन्न सकिन्छ तर मुलभूत समस्या नया नोकरसंगपनि त्यही नै रहन्छ !
सत्ता-शक्ति र राजनीतिक आदर्शको बीचपनि शायेद त्यस्तै सम्बन्ध छ होला ! जुनदिन देखि सत्ता-शक्तिको (नोकरको) सेवा पाउन थाल्छ त्यो दिन देखि सत्ता-शक्ति मालिक बन्न पुग्छ आफु नोकर ! छोडन गाह्रो हुने मनोविज्ञानले “आदर्शहरु” भाँडमा जान्छन !
मान्छेको मनोविज्ञानको यो पक्षलाइ अमेरिकाको founding father हरुले शायेद बुझेको हुनुपर्छ ! त्यसैले उनीहरुको प्रारम्भिक बिचार थियो- अमेरिकी क्याबिनेट, सिनेट, प्रतिनिधि सभामा यस्तो मान्छेहरु जाओस जो एक कार्यकालमात्र पुरा गरोस र जो आफ्नो विज्ञताको बिषयलाइ राजनीतिमा प्रयोग गरोस (जस्तो कृषकले secretary of agriculture वा house committee of agriculture etc. मा प्रतिनिधित्व गरोस) र एक कार्यकालपछी राजनीतिबाट फर्कियोस !
नेपालमा गफै हाँकेर नया पुस्ता भनाउदोहरुपनि नेताको life-long व्यवसाय गरेका छन ! जस्तो नया आशा भनिने गगन थापालाइ लिऔ! गगन थापाले आफ्नो जीवनमा एक पटक जागिरको अनुभवपनि गरेका छैनन् वा राजनीति बाहेक कुनै व्यवसायपनि गरेका छैनन्, कसरि आशामुखी नेता हुन् सक्छन ? किताबी knowledge (ज्ञान) ले केवल वाकपटुटाको निम्ति खुराक दिन्छ तर जीवनको भोगाईले wisdom (प्रज्ञा) दिन्छ ! यस्तो परिस्थितिमा उत्पादित यी सबै भोलि येही नोकर र मालिकको खेलमा नै फस्नेवालाहरु हुन !

It’s a fact that Gagan Thapa is overrated. However, he is one of the few youth leader left in Congress who has both a big dream and the drive as well to catch that dream. His biggest strength is his quick learning skill and his tremendous potential to maneuver media, his sophistry, rhetoric and oratory and he is very street-smart as well. Today nobody look at how long a politician had spend time in jail or scarified his personal comfort for the political or social cause he believed in as in right after post 1990era, even though it counts on the basis of how much a leader is able to cash on it. It’s all about media -how a leader is portrayed in media. Gagan Thapa is master in that skill to self promotes his image. Most popular American leaders like King, Kennedy, Reagan, and today president Obama too were master in this skill lack of which it is impossible today to win an election where public opinion is molded more by mass media than person to person story. My respect towards late Ganeshman Singh, Khadkaman Singh, Gangalal Shrestha, Sundra Raj Chalinse etc was directed by the story told to me by my grandmother and other elders and I judged them by the courage and the character they possessed. Today my nine years old son would judge Gagan Thapa or Jakhi or Jamkattel by their speech and performance on TV programs.
Perhaps the intellectual level of Nepalese mass has not reach to that level where a leader is judged by his vision and his performance. If that had been the case Gagan Thapa would have been judged by digging what he performed and how he performed when he spent six year period in the post of Tri-Chandra College student union starting from member to reaching the post of president. What are his plans and performance rather than how sweet and smooth he talks? In that regard, no leader passes the litmus test to be a good leader in Nepal. Therefore, Gagan Thapa is today Congress rising star only in a relative way till someone more rhetoric and street smart than him comes in the scene.
